The Best $2000 Premium Mini-ITX Gaming PC Build
Eight parts for a premium Mini-ITX gaming PC, each checked against the others for socket, memory, power and case fit.
By The PC Journal editorial team
13 min read8 products evaluated
A premium Mini-ITX build needs a card whose length is stated, and the Radeon RX 7800 XT Challenger with 16GB lists 267mm, well inside the Lian Li A3-mATX's listed 415mm limit. Every part is on AM5 with DDR5, the B850I Edge TI is a Mini-ITX board, and the low-profile ID-COOLING IS-55 keeps the cooler within a small case.
This is a research build, not a lab build: the parts were picked from the makers' figures and then checked against each other, beginning with CPU socket, memory type and memory kit. The total fell between $1,950 and $2,000 when we checked.

AMD Ryzen 5 7600X3D on Amazon (opens in a new tab)
The Ryzen 5 7600X3D is built around 96MB of L3 cache on a six-core chip.
Best for
- Buyers assembling a premium Mini-ITX gaming PC who care about 96MB of L3 cache on a six-core chip.
Skip if
- Skip it if 6 cores leave less headroom for streaming alongside games.
Why we like it
On the spec sheet, it offers a 96MB L3 cache and offers a 4.7GHz boost clock.
The Ryzen 5 7600X3D brings 6 cores and 12 threads, a 4.7GHz maximum boost, 96MB of L3 cache and a 65W rating, and it accounts for 12% of the parts total. It ships without a cooler, so the build pairs it with the IS-55. Its integrated graphics stay available as a backup display output.
The Ryzen 5 7600X3D uses the AM5 socket and the B850I Edge TI board uses AM5, so the processor seats in the board directly. Read the board's CPU support list for the BIOS version this chip needs. The Urbane V RGB is a DDR5 kit, the type both the B850I Edge TI (DDR5) and the Ryzen 5 7600X3D (DDR5) accept. A kit of the other generation would not physically fit the board. AM5 appears in the IS-55's supported sockets (AM5, AM4, LGA1851, LGA1700), so the bracket for the Ryzen 5 7600X3D comes in its box. A cheaper route is the Ryzen 5 7500F: 6 cores against 6, roughly 21% cheaper than the Ryzen 5 7600X3D; it keeps the same socket, memory type and cooler fit.
Key dimensions & specs
- L3 cache: 96MB
- Max boost: 4.7GHz
- Cores / threads: 6 cores
- Rated power: 65W
- Threads: 12

Best for
- Buyers assembling a premium Mini-ITX gaming PC who care about 267mm length.
Skip if
- Skip it if this is a dealbreaker: needs two 8-pin PCIe power cables.
Why we like it
16GB of GDDR6, the RX 7800 XT chip, a 2.5-slot cooler, a 267mm length and 2 x 8-pin power come with the ASRock 7800 XT Challenger, which takes 27% of the parts total, more than any other part. For the supply, the maker's guidance for this chip is 750W.
The ASRock 7800 XT Challenger is listed at 267mm and the A3-mATX takes cards up to 415mm, which leaves 148mm before a front fan or radiator. The ASRock 7800 XT Challenger is an RX 7800 XT card, and its chip maker recommends a 750W system power supply. The Thermaltake Toughpower GT 1000W is 1000W, which leaves 250W for the processor, drives and fans. The ASRock 7800 XT Challenger lists 2 x 8-pin, and the Thermaltake Toughpower GT 1000W lists one 12V-2x6 connector, so match the cable to the card's socket. If the budget is tighter, the Arc B580 Challenger offers the Arc B580 with 12GB of GDDR6, against the RX 7800 XT's 16GB, roughly 39% cheaper than the ASRock 7800 XT Challenger; the supply wattage and case length rows stay green.

How We Chose
Each pick was assessed across 4 criteria weighted for real-world use.
- Compatibility rules
- 11 rules decide whether these parts work together: CPU socket, memory type, memory kit, M.2 slot for the SSD, board size in the case, graphics card length, power supply wattage, graphics power connector, power supply format, cooler mounting kit and cooler height. Every one passes.
- Price at the time of writing
- The parts landed between $1,950 and $2,000 together, inside the $2,000 tier. Prices change daily, so the total can drift.
- Maker figures, not testing
- Specifications come from each maker's listing and the chip makers' published power recommendations; we did not build or benchmark this system.
- Headroom
- The Thermaltake Toughpower GT 1000W keeps 250W above the 750W the graphics chip's maker recommends.
What to Look for in a $2000 Premium Mini-ITX Gaming PC Build
Key buying criteria so you get the right fit the first time.
Platform and upgrade path
Ryzen 5 7600X3D and B850I Edge TI use AM5 with DDR5 memory. AM5 has taken several processor generations, so a later Ryzen can drop into the same board after a BIOS update. Among the 32GB kits we reviewed, the typical DDR5 kit cost about 2.2 times the typical DDR4 kit at the time of writing.
Power supply headroom
The ASRock 7800 XT Challenger is an RX 7800 XT card, and its chip maker recommends a 750W system power supply. The Thermaltake Toughpower GT 1000W is 1000W, which leaves 250W for the processor, drives and fans.
Case fit
The ASRock 7800 XT Challenger is listed at 267mm and the A3-mATX takes cards up to 415mm, which leaves 148mm before a front fan or radiator. The IS-55 stands 57mm tall, but the A3-mATX listing gives no cooler height limit, so check the case page for that figure before ordering. Mini-ITX is the B850I Edge TI's size, and the A3-mATX lists mATX, ITX, so the board has a place on its tray.
Cooling
The IS-55 is a tower air cooler for a processor with a 65W rating. AM5 appears in the IS-55's supported sockets (AM5, AM4, LGA1851, LGA1700), so the bracket for the Ryzen 5 7600X3D comes in its box.
Storage
The Optimus 5100 1TB is PCIe 4.0 x4 and the B850I Edge TI has 2 M.2 slots, so a second drive fits later.
Where the money goes
The three largest lines are graphics card (27%), memory (25%) and motherboard (14%).

The Urbane V RGB is a DDR5 kit, the type both the B850I Edge TI (DDR5) and the Ryzen 5 7600X3D (DDR5) accept. A kit of the other generation would not physically fit the board. Among the 32GB kits we reviewed, the typical DDR5 kit cost about 2.2 times the typical DDR4 kit at the time of writing.
Can I upgrade this build later?
AM5 has taken several processor generations, so a later Ryzen can drop into the same board after a BIOS update. The A3-mATX takes up to a 360mm radiator, and the B850I Edge TI has 2 M.2 slots.
What is not included in the total?
Only the eight parts above are counted. Windows, a monitor, input devices, tax and shipping are not, so budget for them separately.
Bottom Line
Our $2,000 build centres on the ASRock 7800 XT Challenger (RX 7800 XT), the Ryzen 5 7600X3D and the A3-mATX; it spends on a 16GB card and 32GB of DDR5 inside a compact case.
The 1000W supply is larger than this card needs. A smaller ATX supply that still passes the headroom row would cost less if you do not plan a bigger card.
